DirecTV Wins UN Dispute Over Dish's '.Direct' Domain Name

Law360, New York (August 12, 2013, 5:19 PM EDT) -- The United Nations' World Intellectual Property Organization has ruled against Dish Network Corp.'s bid to register a string of “.direct” top-level domains, saying the domains would infringe DirecTV Group Inc.'s trademarks, DirecTV's legal counsel said Monday.

The WIPO, a U.N. agency, upheld DirecTV's objection to an application by Dish DBS Corp., which sought to register “.direct” generic top-level domains with the Internet Corp. for Assigned Names and Numbers, according to a statement released Monday by Arent Fox LLP, the firm that represented DirecTV in the dispute....
