Whistleblower To Get $70M In Merck Deal

Law360, New York (February 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A former Merck employee and qui tam relator will rake in more than $70 million as part of a $650 million settlement deal to resolve allegations that Merck & Co. overcharged Medicaid and illegally paid health care providers to dispense Merck's drugs.

Relator H. Dean Steinke, who worked for Merck from 1995 until 2001, will get $44,690,000 from the federal government's share of the settlement proceeds, in addition to $23.5 million from the states, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
