Calif. Gov. Vetoes Bill Allowing Payment For Egg Donations

Law360, San Diego (August 14, 2013, 10:16 PM EDT) -- California Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday rejected a bill that would have allowed women in the state to be paid for donating their eggs to medical research, saying in a veto letter that “not everything in life is for sale, nor should it be.”

A.B. 926, carried by state Assemblywoman Susan Bonilla, D-Concord, proposed to lift the state's prohibition on compensating women for undergoing invasive procedures to stimulate, extract and harvest their eggs for scientific research beyond reimbursement of their direct expenses.
