S. African Antitrust Watchdog Puts Limits On Media Sale

Law360, New York (August 15, 2013, 7:08 PM EDT) -- South Africa's Competition Commission has put conditions on the $200 million sale of publishing group Independent News & Media South Africa (Pty.) Ltd. to Sekunjalo Independent Media Consortium based on concerns about the buyers' other media holdings, the watchdog said Thursday.

The antitrust enforcer cleared the two-part transaction with conditions on Aug. 7, saying it was concerned that the new ownership's holdings in other news outlets could make it easier for the companies to share competitively sensitive information and coordinate their business activities.
