Republican Economist Sworn In As SEC Commissioner

Law360, New York (August 15, 2013, 7:00 PM EDT) -- Former U.S. Senate Banking Committee economist Michael Piwowar was sworn in Thursday as a commissioner on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, replacing fellow Republican Troy Paredes at the nation’s top securities regulator.

President Barack Obama nominated Piwowar on May 23. He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Aug. 1, along with Kara M. Stein, a Democrat and former aide to Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I. Stein was sworn in on Aug. 9 and replaced Commissioner Elisse B. Walter.
