Feds Probe Merrill's Mortgage-Backed Securities

Law360, New York (February 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Federal prosecutors are reportedly taking a closer look at Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc.'s subprime mortgage-related activities.

The U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan has asked the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to share information it has gathered in its ongoing investigation into how the investment bank values its mortgage-backed securities, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

A spokesperson for Merrill said Friday that the company does not comment on regulatory matters, except to say that Merrill cooperates on regulatory matters when asked.
