Chevron, Others Sued Over Oilfield Waste Disposal

Law360, Chicago (August 19, 2013, 6:02 PM EDT) -- A group of Louisiana landowners are suing Chevron USA Inc. and several other energy firms for allegedly contaminating their properties by disposing of hazardous oilfield wastes in unlined earthen pits and breaching their leases, according to a complaint that was removed to federal court on Friday.

The lawsuit, which was originally filed in Louisiana state court in May, claims the defendants’ improper waste disposal practices breached a variety of leases and other land use contracts with the plaintiffs, who own a combined 1,475 acres in Plaquemines...
