Feds Stomp Atty's New Acquittal Bid In Witness Murder Case

Law360, New York (August 19, 2013, 1:40 PM EDT) -- U.S. prosecutors on Friday slammed former criminal defense attorney Paul W. Bergrin's latest attempt to reverse his conviction for using his law practice to facilitate murder and traffic drugs, telling a New Jersey federal court that Bergrin's arguments are “untimely” and “meritless.”

In July, U.S. District Judge Dennis M. Cavanaugh denied Bergrin's May request for a new trial or an acquittal on several counts, saying Bergrin's jury was given sufficient evidence. Undeterred, Bergrin filed a motion Aug. 8 asking Judge Cavanaugh to reconsider. But federal prosecutors on...
