Texas Panel Quashes $10M Judgments Against Fen-Phen Atty

Law360, Houston (August 20, 2013, 8:00 PM EDT) -- A Texas appeals court on Tuesday tossed judgments exceeding $10 million against a Houston personal injury attorney, saying it was unclear whether he surreptitiously overcharged his clients in litigation against a Pfizer Inc. unit over the diet drug fen-phen.

The Fourteenth District Court of Appeals ruled that approximately 600 of George Fleming's former clients failed to show that $20 million in expenses he deducted from their recoveries against Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Inc. was unreasonable or improper and that a trial court should not have granted summary judgment...
