Docs' Blue Cross Antitrust Claims Barred By Prior Settlement

Law360, New York (August 20, 2013, 6:25 PM EDT) -- A Florida federal judge on Tuesday refused to allow three doctors to join a proposed antitrust class action facing Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Alabama, saying they released their claims when they settled a previous suit with the insurer.

Under the settlement agreement resolving a 2007 suit accusing the insurance company of stalling and stiffing doctors out of payment for their services, the physicians agreed to release any related claims, preventing them from participating in the more recent suit accusing Blue Cross and its member...
