1st Circ. Upholds Mass. Pol's Bribery Conviction

Law360, New York (August 22, 2013, 3:19 PM EDT) -- The First Circuit on Wednesday affirmed the conviction and sentence of former Massachusetts House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi, who is serving eight years for taking bribes for government contracts. 

DiMasi had argued that his sentence is too lengthy compared to similar ones, that he was punished for speaking out against the initial conviction and that that the court impermissibly considered that he is the third consecutive Massachusetts House Speaker to be convicted of a crime, according to the opinion.
