Nestle Sues RenaGum Maker Over Kidney Disease Treatment

Law360, Washington (August 26, 2013, 8:27 PM EDT) -- Nestle Health Science SA slammed Mastix Medica LLC with an infringement suit in New Jersey federal court on Friday, claiming the company's kidney disease treatment gum violates a Nestle patent for the method.

According to Nestle's complaint, Mastix's RenaGum product infringes on its patent-in-suit, U.S. Patent Number 7,915,898, entitled “oral compositions for absorption of phosphorous compounds.” The gum uses chitosan to treat hypophosphatemia, or a phosphate deficiency, to help manage patients' renal disease.
