Union Presses USTR On Vietnam Labor Issues In TPP

Law360, New York (August 27, 2013, 7:24 PM EDT) -- The president of the Teamsters union on Monday pushed the U.S. Trade Representative to explain how the U.S. plans to ensure that Vietnam meets commitments on labor rights under the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership.

International Brotherhood of Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa wrote to USTR Michael Froman expressing concerns over questionable labor practices in Vietnam — one of 11 countries negotiating with the U.S. for the proposed TPP trade agreement — including the possibility that manufacturers in the Southeast Asian country use forced child labor....
