Twitter Didn't Infringe Messaging Patent, Fed. Circ. Rules

Law360, New York (August 30, 2013, 3:05 PM EDT) -- The Federal Circuit on Friday affirmed a ruling that Twitter Inc. and others did not infringe a mass messaging patent owned by Cooper Notification Inc., finding that Twitter's service operates differently from the patented invention.

In a 2-1 decision, the appeals court concluded that U.S. District Judge Leonard Stark correctly construed the claims in Cooper's patent relating to the transmission of messages and granted Twitter summary judgment of noninfringement.
