LegalZoom Seeks Judgment In False Marketing Row

Law360, Los Angeles (September 4, 2013, 6:28 PM EDT) -- Online legal services provider LegalZoom.com Inc. on Wednesday asked a California federal court to grant the company summary judgment in what it calls a “straightforward case,” accusing its rival Rocket Lawyer Inc. of false advertising and unfair competition by using false marketing claims.

The motion comes after LegalZoom announced in November that it was suing the rival legal document services company over its use of the word “free” in advertising, saying access to its services can require fees or memberships. The company said Rocket Lawyer’s advertisements...
