Liberty Mutual Off Hook For Linn's Pollution Case Defense

Law360, Houston (September 5, 2013, 8:04 PM EDT) -- A Texas federal judge said Thursday that Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. is not obligated to defend Linn Energy LLC in litigation blaming Linn for contaminants leaked from a Louisiana pipeline that allegedly caused extensive property damage.

U.S. District Judge David Hittner granted Liberty Mutual's motion for summary judgment, ruling that policies the insurer issued to Linn specifically exclude coverage for costs incurred defending against claims alleging bodily injury or property damage that result from pollution.
