Pa. County Councilwoman Wants 3-Year Gas Drilling Ban

Law360, Philadelphia (September 11, 2013, 5:34 PM EDT) -- Any immediate plans to develop natural gas under public land around Pittsburgh were placed in jeopardy Tuesday after an Allegheny County councilwoman introduced legislation that would place a three-year hold on drilling activity beneath county parks while officials study claims on subsurface rights.

The bill drafted by Councilwoman Barbara Daly Danko would force Allegheny County officials to undertake a thorough study of the risks liabilities of gas drilling on county-owned parkland to address potential concerns about who holds rights to subsurface minerals.
