Businesses Appeal SEC Conflict Minerals Disclosure Rule

Law360, New York (September 13, 2013, 3:04 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and two business groups on Wednesday told a federal appeals court that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's disclosure requirement for companies using “conflict minerals” violates the First Amendment.

The appeal comes after a lower court decision upholding the disclosure requirement, which the SEC says will help cut off funding to violent groups in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
