WTO Chief's Ambitions Not Enough To Revamp Negotiations

Law360, New York (September 12, 2013, 10:16 PM EDT) -- The new head of the World Trade Organization recently announced his goal to reinvigorate the body's negotiating agenda, and although his ambition might be well-placed, experts say the future of multicountry trade agreements still ultimately depends on WTO members setting aside long-standing differences.

In his inaugural speech to the WTO General Council on Monday, new Director-General Roberto Azevedo stressed the importance of rebuilding faith in the organization and promised to take steps to get multilateral trade negotiations, such as the long-stalled Doha Round, back on track....
