Leery of China-Processed Chicken, Schumer Demands Audits

Law360, New York (September 16, 2013, 6:00 PM EDT) -- U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer on Monday warned that increased regulation is necessary to safeguard American consumers from imports of poultry processed in Chinese plants that will be allowed under a recent U.S. Department of Agriculture determination.

Sen. Schumer, D-N.Y., called on the USDA to increase the number of audits at Chinese facilities that process meat, and tighten inspection protocols of chicken that is shipped back into the U.S., saying China has an alarming track record of exporting food tainted with contaminants ranging from arsenic and pesticides...
