Pa. Reps. Float Bills To Protect Landowners In Gas Leases

Law360, Philadelphia (September 17, 2013, 6:09 PM EDT) -- Lawmakers introduced a trio of bills in Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives on Monday aimed at protecting landowners by ending certain deductions taken from royalty checks for gas drilling on their property and banning the forced pooling of leases on subsurface rights.

The bills, which came from both Republican and Democratic lawmakers in the House, would prevent gas drillers from minimizing royalty payments they’re required to pay landowners under state statute and protect landowners from what one lawmaker called "eminent domain for drillers."
