Obama OKs Sending Chemical Weapons Aid To Syria

Law360, New York (September 17, 2013, 3:42 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama on Monday waived prohibitions in the Arms Export Control Act to allow the U.S. government to send equipment intended to treat and protect against chemical weapons attacks to “vetted” Syrian rebels and international organizations.

The order authorizes the U.S. to supply chemical weapons aid to the Syrian people. President Obama said in a memo that preventing the proliferation of Syria's chemical weapons “is essential to the national security interests of the United States.”
