Insurers Sue Army For $1.4M Over 2010 Utah Wildfire

Law360, Chicago (September 17, 2013, 7:28 PM EDT) -- Farmers Insurance Exchange and State Farm Fire & Casualty Co. sued the U.S. Army in Utah federal court Tuesday to recoup $1.4 million they coughed up to cover property damage from a 2010 wildfire sparked outside Salt Lake City during a military training exercise. 

Since dubbed the “Machine Gun Fire,” the conflagration ultimately destroyed three homes, forced the evacuation of 1,600 others and torched 4,300 acres — a disaster that, according to the insurers’ complaint, was caused by the Army’s negligence.
