Calif. High Court To Hear Hartford Dispute Over Legal Tab

Law360, San Diego (September 19, 2013, 10:39 PM EDT) -- The California Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear a fee dispute in which Hartford Casualty Insurance Co. seeks to recover some of the $15 million it paid Squire Sanders to independently defend J.R. Marketing LLC against claims that J.R.'s founders stole business from a former employer.

The state’s high court granted Hartford’s petition for review after a California appeals court in May ruled the insurer lacked a quasi-contractual right based on common law to sue Squire Sanders directly to be reimbursed for any improper fees....
