Ill. Court Backs Toss Of $90M Asbestos Conspiracy Verdict

Law360, New York (September 19, 2013, 6:45 PM EDT) -- An Illinois appellate court on Wednesday upheld the reversal of nearly $90 million in damages against Honeywell International Inc. and others accused of colluding to conceal the dangers of asbestos, saying the evidence does not suggest the companies were conspiring together.

The unanimous state appeals court backed a judge's decision to toss a jury verdict allocating punitive damages of $40 million against Owens-Illinois Inc., $20 million against Honeywell and $20 million against Pneumo Abex LLC, as well as $9.6 million in shared compensatory damages. That award...
