Judge Rules Cigna's Retirement Plan Fair

Law360, New York (February 19, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A judge has sided with health care giant Cigna Corp. in a feud with employees over changes to its retirement benefits, ruling the company's cash balance plan did not discriminate against older workers.

In a 122-page opinion issued Friday, Judge Mark Kravitz of the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut said Cigna's decision to drop its traditional defined benefit plan in 1998 and replace it with the increasingly popular cash plan did not run afoul of federal discrimination laws.
