Toxic Safety Agency Floats Restrictions For Fine Violators

Law360, New York (September 23, 2013, 5:33 PM EDT) -- The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration is cracking down on companies that fail to hand over civil penalties or breach a payment agreement with the agency, issuing a proposed rule Monday that forbids violators from transporting hazardous materials until they pay up.

Any entity that is shirking its financial responsibilities to the government won't be able to conduct its normal business activities related to toxic substances starting 90 days after payment was due, unless the company has lodged a formal appeal of the penalty, according...
