AHA Asks Medicare To Delay Two-Midnight Admission Policy

Law360, New York (September 23, 2013, 7:33 PM EDT) -- The American Hospital Association on Thursday urged Medicare to delay by three months a new requirement that inpatient admissions must cross at least two midnights to qualify for reimbursement, saying more guidance is needed and that providers are unprepared for the policy’s Oct. 1 debut.

In a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the AHA said “many questions remain unanswered” about how the two-midnights policy will be applied and pressed the agency to hold off on enforcement until it has provided more details....
