Blast Victims Lobby To Boost BP’s Fine By Billions

Law360 (February 19, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Victims of the 2005 explosion at BP PLC's Texas City, Texas, refinery are pushing to increase the oil giant’s current $50 million agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, arguing that the fine should fall in the range of $400 million to $3.2 billion.

In court documents filed Saturday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, the victims point out that BP recently conceded that it has paid more than $1.6 billion in civil settlements for civil claims arising from the accident....
