Skype Investor Blames PwC For $1.4M Tax Bill On EBay Sale

Law360, New York (September 23, 2013, 10:11 PM EDT) -- Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLC set up a “needlessly complicated” transaction for Skype Ltd. founding board member Mark Dyne that resulted in him having to pay $1.4 million in taxes when eBay Inc. bought Skype, Dyne told a jury Monday in the trial of his accounting malpractice suit.

Dyne's attorney Jeffrey Gersh of Gersh Derby said an international tax expert at Coopers & Lybrand LLP, the predecessor to PwC, had incorrectly structured an offshore corporation, Lockeridge Ltd., that held Dyne's shares in Skype. Dyne alleges the mistake caused...
