DOD Warns Workers To Prepare For Government Shutdown

Law360, New York (September 24, 2013, 4:31 PM EDT) -- Amid growing uncertainty about a consensus in Congress that would avert a government shutdown when government funding runs out at the end of this month, the Department of Defense told its civilian employees Monday to brace for furloughs.

Although the memo Monday by Deputy Defense Secretary Ash Carter expressed optimism that Congress would pass a continuing resolution to prevent a shutdown at the start of the new fiscal year on Oct. 1, it said the department was taking steps to plan an “orderly shutdown” of activities...
