Anglo American Settles Silicosis Claims With 23 Miners

Law360, Chicago (September 25, 2013, 1:38 PM EDT) -- British mining giant Anglo American PLC said Wednesday that it has settled 23 stand-alone silicosis claims lodged by South African miners but still is fighting a class action over the lung disease in England.

Anglo American’s South African unit cut a deal resolving the claims — which were initiated between 2004 and 2009 — without any admitting any liability, according to a statement from the company. The exact terms of the deal will remain confidential, it said.
