Lawmaker Pushes EEOC For Wellness Program Guidelines

Law360, New York (September 25, 2013, 7:10 PM EDT) -- The New York congresswoman who authored the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act urged the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Monday to investigate employer wellness programs that seek health information from workers and issue guidelines for compliance with federal anti-discrimination laws. 

In a letter to the agency, Rep. Louise M. Slaughter, D-N.Y., requested that the commissioners promptly draft guidance to keep employers from using wellness programs to coerce sensitive information from employees and to protect workers from discrimination.
