Sears Turns Down Heat On Stove Dispute

Law360, New York (February 20, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Sears Holdings Corp. has opted to settle a class action over stoves that allegedly have a tendency to tip over by agreeing to implement safety brackets on the disputed appliances found in millions of homes.

On Wednesday, Judge Nicholas Byron preliminarily approved the agreement. Sears pledged to fix all brands of its kitchen ranges in an estimated 3.9 million homes by bolting the potentially dangerous appliances to the wall.
