ConAgra Asks 7th Circ. To Nix $180M Award To Blast Victims

Law360, Chicago (October 2, 2013, 6:59 PM EDT) -- ConAgra Foods Inc. and a salvage contractor pressed the Seventh Circuit Wednesday to overturn a $180 million jury verdict against them stemming from an explosion at an Illinois grain mill that severely burned three workers.

During oral arguments in Chicago, ConAgra attempted to shift much of the blame for the 2010 accident on the contractor, West Side Salvage Inc., which the packaged foods company had hired to save a silo of grain that had been smoldering for weeks before it finally exploded.
