Shutdown Status Of Top 7 Gov't Antitrust Cases

Law360, New York (October 1, 2013, 5:13 PM EDT) -- Several of the U.S. Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission's most pressing cases, including two active merger trials, are moving forward despite the agencies' requests to put the suits on hold amid a government shutdown.

Under their contingency plans, both agencies' antitrust units are supposed to seek stays for civil cases until Congress appropriates more funding to reopen the federal government. But even though government litigators asked, judges overseeing three of the agencies' biggest merger challenges decided to press ahead.
