Drug Sting Sweeps Up Owner Of Online Marketplace Silk Road

Law360, New York (October 2, 2013, 1:25 PM EDT) -- U.S. officials on Wednesday filed computer hacking, drug trafficking and money laundering charges against Ross William Ulbricht, the owner of Silk Road, an online marketplace where customers can allegedly use Bitcoins to anonymously purchase drugs and malicious software.

Ulbricht, 29, was arrested in San Francisco on Tuesday and was scheduled to appear in California federal court on Wednesday. The charges come after officials raided Silk Road, shut down the site and seized about $3.6 million worth of Bitcoins, the largest ever seizure of the controversial currency....
