FTC Clears $2B Boise Deal With No Strings Attached

Law360, New York (October 2, 2013, 5:46 PM EDT) -- Packaging company Boise Inc. will not be required to sell anything — even a Washington state mill it hinted it would be willing to part with — to seal its $2 billion takeover by Packaging Corp. of America, after antitrust officials approved the deal as-is on Tuesday.

The Federal Trade Commission approved early termination of the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act waiting period for the deal, which the companies struck two weeks ago. A company spokesman confirmed that no divestitures were required.
