Employees Say West Penn Denied Meal Breaks

Law360, New York (October 8, 2013, 3:59 PM EDT) -- West Penn Allegheny Health System was hit with a putative collective action in Pennsylvania federal court on Friday claiming to cover more than 13,000 employees the suit alleges were forced to work through meal breaks without pay.

Plaintiffs in the proposed collective action — hourly employees who worked at least 40 hours per week — say they were not paid at the appropriate overtime rate for the time they worked during their unpaid meal breaks as a result of the health system’s automatic meal break deduction...
