Monster Inc. Kills 'Monster Memory' Trademark At TTAB

Law360, New York (October 9, 2013, 3:41 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Trademark Trial and Appeal Board sided with Monster Inc. last month and canceled a small computer memory company's trademark that included the word  “Monster” on the grounds that it was confusingly similar to the audio/video cable manufacturer's name.

The TTAB said in a Sept. 23 ruling that Monster Memory and More Inc.'s registration of its name would likely confuse consumers for various reasons, among them that Monster's name had become famously linked to the company in the minds of consumers....
