US Time-Barred From Seeking Customs Bond, Hartford Says

Law360, New York (October 9, 2013, 6:08 PM EDT) -- Hartford Insurance Co. on Wednesday asked the U.S. Court of International Trade to force the federal government to repay it for customs bond payments it made on behalf of a Chinese mushroom importer, saying the government’s efforts to collect the money were time-barred.

Hartford alleges the government was limited to seeking payment within six years after Sino Trend Inc. failed to pay customs bonds for entries of preserved mushrooms exported by a Chinese company, Guangxi Hengxian Pro-Light Foods Ltd. Hartford claims it was the surety on...
