Aereo Beats Back ABC Affiliate's Injunction Bid

Law360, New York (October 10, 2013, 10:27 AM EDT) -- A federal judge in Massachusetts handed online streaming service Aereo Inc. a big win Tuesday, denying a local ABC affiliate a preliminary injunction on the grounds that Aereo likely didn't violate copyright law by rebroadcasting network television signals.

U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton rejected the motion for a shutdown order from Hearst Corp.-owned WCVB TV, ruling that Aereo's system of tiny antennae that transmit unique broadcast signals to individual users over the Internet was probably not a “public performance” of the networks' copyright works....
