Luxury Cos. Win Counterfeiting Ruling Against TradeKey

Law360, New York (October 15, 2013, 7:59 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge sided with Cartier International, Alfred Dunhill Ltd. and other luxury brands last week in a ruling that Pakistan-based e-commerce site TradeKey Pvt. Ltd. violated U.S. counterfeiting laws by aiding the sale of knock-off goods.

U.S. District Judge Gary A. Feess said the online wholesaler, a so-called business-to-business marketplace like Chinese site Alibaba, “actively promoted and facilitated the sale” of rip-off goods from various members of the site, breaching anti-counterfeit, trademark and unfair competition laws.
