Regulator Ends Targeted Online Ad Probe With Warning

Law360, New York (October 15, 2013, 5:42 PM EDT) -- A group within the advertising industry's self-regulatory body issued a compliance warning Monday to require website operators to inform their online visitors when third-party firms are gathering information for so-called online behavioral advertising or targeted advertisements, after finding at least seven companies in violation of the rule.

The Advertising Self-Regulatory Council’s group the Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program said it did not want to identify the seven companies and would not take further action against them beyond Monday’s warning. But the group will start to enforce...
