Calif. Gov. Snubs Bill Seeking Gas Price Manipulation Probe

Law360, San Diego (October 15, 2013, 6:26 PM EDT) -- California Gov. Jerry Brown on Sunday rejected a measure that would have required the state’s Energy Commission to look into whether a spike in gas prices stemmed from market manipulation by oil companies.

S.B. 448, authored by state Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, sought to direct the commission to investigate suspected manipulation of gas prices using data it already collects and make recommendations to the Legislature on how to protect California consumers against erratic gas prices, but the governor said the bill was unnecessary.
