Gordon & Rees' Fee Award Nixed In SLAPP Fight

Law360, Los Angeles (October 16, 2013, 2:21 PM EDT) -- A California appeals court ruled Tuesday that Gordon & Rees LLP isn't owed fees under anti-SLAPP laws for defending itself in litigation brought by Catanzarite Law Corp., which accused the firm of interfering with contractual relations after former Catanzarite clients allegedly backed out of a contingency fee agreement.

The appeals court said Gordon & Rees wasn't entitled to a fee award under anti-strategic lawsuit against public participation laws because self-represented parties cannot recover attorneys’ fees in that context. The appeals court reversed a lower court decision...
