Microsoft Targets Avistar Patents For USPTO Review

Law360 (February 26, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Microsoft Corp. is urging patent officials to take another look at two dozen U.S. patents held by videoconferencing technology firm Avistar Communications Corp.

Microsoft informed San Mateo, Calif.-based Avistar that it is challenging 24 of Avistar’s 29 U.S. patents before the Patent and Trademark Office, Avistar said Monday. Microsoft’s call for an extensive reexamination comes after six months of unsuccessful business negotiations between the parties, according to Avistar.
