Liggett Reaches $110M Deal To End Most Engle Smoker Suits

Law360, New York (October 23, 2013, 11:46 AM EDT) -- Tobacco major Liggett Group LLC has struck a $110 million settlement putting nearly all the outstanding product-liability cases spawned by the Florida Supreme Court’s Engle ruling behind it, the company announced Wednesday.

Under the terms of the deal, Liggett parent company Vector Group Ltd. will cough up a lump sum of about $61 million and pay an additional $49 million over the next 15 years.
