$3.5M Deal Ends Nurses' Meal Break Deduction Class Action

Law360, New York (October 24, 2013, 4:53 PM EDT) -- A Wisconsin federal judge approved a $3.5 million settlement Wednesday, in a class and collective action brought against SSM Health Care of Wisconsin Inc. on behalf of approximately 1,400 nurses who allegedly had meal periods automatically deducted from their pay despite their having to remain on duty.

U.S. District Judge William M. Conley gave the pact final approval and also signed off on a $1.16 million fees and costs award for plaintiffs' counsel Hawks Quindel SC and Habush Habush & Rottier SC, wrapping up the case...
