3M Counsel Urges Caution On Bill Targeting 'Patent Trolls'

Law360, Washington (October 24, 2013, 1:39 PM EDT) -- The chief architect of a new bill aimed at cracking down on so-called patent trolls said Thursday that the legislation won’t diminish or devalue patent rights, while 3M Co.’s chief intellectual property counsel urged caution in over-legislating patent plaintiffs.

In remarks at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., touted the Innovation Act, H.R. 3309, which combines many features included in other bills introduced this year to deal with abusive patent litigation.
